Community Forum
The community forum is a quarterly meeting of township churches and other nonprofit organizations. The purpose of this group is to identify problems within the community and outline possible solutions. Each year the forum chooses a topic on which to focus their efforts. For 2009 they have chosen hunger in Bethel Township. Some of the problems the group has identified are a general lack of public awareness regarding the location and hours of operation of township food pantries, too few free hot meals and the need for churches and other agencies to better coordinate their efforts. The discussion has rendered several solutions. One widely used resource stemming from this forum is the Food Assistance Directory. This document has been distributed to local churches and social service agencies and is also available on line at IMPACT Bethel’s web site. The directory lists all available food pantries, the day, location and time of free hot meals, and other agencies within the township that provide assistance to those in need. The group has also increased the amount of free hot meals offered to township residents from two meals to four. Forum members continue to explore new ways to better help those in need. If you are interested in the work of the Community Forum please join us at our next meeting. All are welcome to attend.
